Singing With Us
We are a friendly choir that likes to perform a varied repertoire of music to a high standard. We are keen to hear from experienced, enthusiastic singers interested in joining us.
We do not currently have a permanent conductor, having historically worked with a number of guest conductors. The choir has benefited from the experience of a range of conducting styles and singing an enormously varied repertoire – sacred and secular, from early to contemporary.
David Ireson, one of our regular guest conductors has kindly agreed to conduct the remainder of the 2016/17 season of concerts, while we consider our future direction.
The choir sings either a cappella or accompanied – by, for example, organ, chamber orchestra or brass ensemble. There are regular opportunities for members to sing solos.
The normal sized choir for a Carillon concert is around 28 singers (10 sopranos, 8 altos, 5 tenors and 5 basses). The singers for each concert are selected from a pool of about 50 members, depending on their availability for the concert and rehearsals and the requirements of the music. We normally perform five concerts a year which take place on Saturdays at 7.30 pm, and we hold a Choral Workshop each spring. After each concert we have a drinks party for members and friends.
To cover the costs of running the choir, singers are asked to pay a subscription of £30 per concert which includes refreshments at the rehearsals and hire of music.
